Notes from the Bench...
Windy Mountain Jasper
Most commonly found in wavy banded shades of white, light pink and salmon, the semi-translucence of this stone gives it a gentle, dreamy quality that is just so feminine and pretty.
But, being a jasper, Windy Mountain is comparatively tougher to other ethereal looking stones like opals and moonstones which are more fragile. So this stone is a good alternative for rings which are more vulnerable to knocks and bumps.
When working with this gem, I like to contrast the soft delicacy of the colour with a nice chunky cut of stone, a thick bezel and a relatively wide band. I'm also planning to try pairing this stone with some rustic, oxidised silver in the future.

Provenance
Windy Mountain Jasper is mined in Empire, Nevada.
The cabochons I use in my work are sourced directly from the States by a UK lapidary artist who then cuts and polishes each cabochon in house.
