Chalcedony

Notes from the Bench...

Chalcedony

This is one of the gems I first learned to set stones with so it holds a special place for me.

A semi-translucent quartz, you will sometimes see it dyed bright colours, but the variety I work is a pearly shade of blue. I like to pair this stone with heavily oxidised elements but it also looks beautiful set simply in silver for a cool, airy vibe.

Provenance

The blue chalcedony I use comes from Minas Gerais in Brazil.

My supplier owns a quartz mine in the region which she is committed to operating in an ethical and environmentally responsible way. She also sources other gems, including chalcedony, from a local artisanal mining co-operative that shares her values.
