Apache Canyon Rhyolite

Apache Canyon Rhyolite

One of my favourite stones, this volcanic rock is most commonly found in shades of red, crimson and terracotta. It often has a blue-ish undertone which looks stunning offset against bright polished silver, but is also rich enough in hue to complement warmer skin tones.

Characterised by dendritic inclusions that resemble silhouetted desert landscapes, each of one these stones is unique and really special - like a tiny painting of nature that you can always carry with you.

Provenance

Apache Canyon Rhyolite is mined in Deming, New Mexico but it is becoming increasingly rare.

The cabochons I use in my work are handpicked for their patterns from the collections of a UK lapidiary artist. He sources the material directly from the States and then cuts and polishes each cabochon in house.

Care

This is a relatively hard stone but care should still be taken to protect it from knocks, drops and contact with chemicals.
